Title of Presentation:
Dialogue Journaling and Building Community in the classroom.
Length of presentation: 30 minutes plus 15 minutes for questions.
Presentation description: (Please describe what you will do. Must be fewer than 800 characters).
Limited class time lessens opportunities for student/teacher interactions. Dialogue journaling is one strategy for increasing interactions through written conversations. It lets the student know that the teacher cares about them, provides feedback about the needs and interests of students and allows for correction and guidance without inhibiting the student’s expression.
The workshop will present the purpose, benefits and steps involved in using dialogue journaling. We will examine what a Learning Log and Dialogue Journal have in common; the role of the teacher and of the student in the process; subjects that may be used; and frequency and time-allotment for dialogue entries. We will examine examples of dialogues and discuss their content and relevance to the learning experience.
